It is known that cotton production has a significant share in the economy of the country among the agricultural production activities of the Republic of Turkey. In this scope, “Cotton Farming in Benin” project was initiated in line with the instruction of Mr. President Abdullah Gül and proposals of Mr. President Boni Yayi for technical cooperation on cotton farming during the visit of the Benin President to Turkey.

 

Turkey is among the leading countries for efficiency in cotton production and it continues training on soil preparation, correct input supply, raising technique, harvest and agricultural mechanization for sharing its technical experiences with the cotton producers in Benin. In this scope, 500 units of knapsack power sprayers,  hand hoes, mask, gloves and glasses were granted by TİKA to the Bohıcon and Parakuo Agricultural Research Institute in the north of the country to be distributed to cotton producers.

 

The supplied goods were delivered to the concerned authorities. Officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Research Institute expressed their gratitude to TİKA and training instructors for their support for material and training. Officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Research Institute also reiterated their wishes to continue technical cooperation with Turkey under the cotton farming project.
