Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry hired a land of 5 million decares in Sudan. Various agricultural products will be grown on these lands especially vegetable and fruit. Lands will be opened to private sector.

Following the memorandum of understanding signed on 3 May 2012 between the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and the relevant Ministry of Sudan, the agricultural works to be carried out in this country were accelerated. General Directorate of Agricultural Businesses (TİGEM) was appointed in this scope and got soil samples from the most fertile lands of Sudan after a 4-month work and analyzed them in Turkey.

The process got faster following the report of Agricultural Engineers that all import products of Turkey will be grown on these lands.

A total area in 5 different regions of Sudan which is more than two times of the lands of TİGEM in Turkey was allocated to the Ministry of Food.

5 million decares land was hired to TİGEM including the areas in Omdurman, Rahat, Medani and Abugota.

Private sector companies from Turkey will establish exemplary farms there. Seed, fruit and vegetable production will be done and these products will be sold to the Middle East and Africa markets in free zones.

Production in a month
Agricultural products which Turkey cannot grow and has to import will be grown on these lands. Imported imported items like sesame, cotton, oily seeds, tropical fruit and vegetable seeds will be grown on these lands.

Cheap fruit and vegetable will be offered to the Turkish consumers as the labour and irrigation costs are very low. The production will start in a month.

China has been doing this for years
Countries like China, United Arab Emirates and Australia apply a similar model for years in Sudan. Turkey will spread the Sudan model to Tanzania and the other African countries with fertile land. The Sudan Government has also a joint project in the region where the land is hired.
