17th Mediterranean Games In Mersin

Mersin, the pearl of the Mediterranean, hosted the 17th Mediterranean games which is known the second most important multidisciplinary sports organization after Olympiads.

 
Mersin, the pearl of the Mediterranean, hosted the 17th Mediterranean games which is known the second most important multidisciplinary sports organization after Olympiads. Mersin welcomed thousands of sportsmen, sports managers and supporters from 3 continents for the Games.
 
Volos from Greece was entitled to host the 17th Mediterranean Games in the General Assembly and candidate elections held in 2007 in Pescara, Italy and Mersin filed its request tohost the Games in 2017. However, the Games were withdrawn from Volos after the economic crisis in Greece which couldn’t make any investments in 4 years.
 
Thereafter, the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG) nominated 3 cities to host the Games: Mersin from Turkey, Tarragona from Spain and Tripoli from Libya.
 
In the voting held in February 23, 2011, Mersin took the most votes followed by Spain and Libya. So the 2013 Mersin 17th Mediterranean Games were announced.
 
Mersin hosted 24 countries or the Mediterranean Games which take place every 4 years with the rules of Olympiads. The city enjoyed Olympic spirit and aims to host many other national and international sports organizations for the future based on the sports investments of 500 million TL which were already completed in the city.
