Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan Met Thomas Boni Yayi, The President Of Benin

“But when it comes to Benin and the continent of Africa, we care for Benin to have more exports to our country based on the importance we pay to these regions”.

Mr. Çağlayan noted that the growth of relations between two countries was also enjoyed in the fields of economy and commerce. He added: “10 years ago, the total trade volume between the two countries was 5,4 million dollars and it increased by 15 times to 81 million dollars in 2012. This year, our economic relations had significant growth equal to nearly 27 percent as of January 1 – March 12.”
 
The Minister emphasized that the relations between Turkey and Benin were not only in the field of trade and economy and got strengthened through mechanisms in the fields of science, education and culture. He reminded that several agreements were concluded in these fields during the visit of President Yayi to Turkey last year. The Minister underlined the importance of the strengthening of relations with Benin and development of trade balance within the framework of mutual investments and economic relations not only in favour of Turkey but also in favour of Benin. 
 
Çağlayan stated that his duty as the Economy Minister was to increase export and decrease import of Turkey as much as possible. He added: “But when it comes to Benin and the continent of Africa, we care for Benin to have more exports to our country based on the importance we pay to these regions”.
 
Mr Çağlayan said that there weren’t any Turkish investment in Benin and no Turkish contracting companies had any contract in the country. He expressed that the concerned visit, the meetings held and legal backgrounds like “Agreement on Mutual Incentive and Protection of Invesments” to be signed would enable the Turkish companies to invest in Benin and that they would encourage the companies for this matter.
